Jersey Central Power and Light is a subsidiary of First Energy Corp. The New Jersey utility company serves 1.1 million customers located in the northern and central parts of the state.
First Energy Corp. was created through mergers in 1997. It is one of the nation’s largest investor-owned electric utilities. In 2001, it merged with GPU of Morristown NJ, the electric utility serving 2.1 million customers in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. JCP&L was one of the subsidiaries of GPU at the time.
JCP&L provides electricity, but also offers both retail and wholesale interconnection to those who add generation to their meters. The interconnection link not only alleviates the stress on the electric grid during high-peak demand, but also allows wholesale generation companies sell excess of their electricity on the market.
JCP&L offers a lot of services beyond electricity. It has an electric vehicle charger lease program for those owning electric cars. It offers connected home plan that transforms the residence into a “smart” home. Additionally, a Singled Pulse Pair Starter Kit that includes a dimmable LED light bundled with Bluetooth audio is available to those who is looking to take charge of all lightning in their houses.
The company tries to help its consumers with tailored bill management solutions. One of the tools it offers is a utility cost analyzer that helps both residential and business customers identify how they can reduce their energy expenses.
Finally, JCP&L participates in the New Jersey Clean Energy Program offering both monetary incentives and other rebates to those striving to conserve energy and help the environment.
