PPL PLANS AND RATES

PPL Utilities is a subsidiary of the PPL Corporation, headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In 1920, eight small utility companies formed to create PPL, or Pennsylvania Power & Light. Over the years, the company expanded its territory across central and eastern Pennsylvania, from Lancaster to Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. PPL Utilities became a holding company in 1995 and changed its name to the PPL Corporation in 2000.

Today, PPL Utilities serves around 1.4 million customers across 29 counties in Pennsylvania, managing over 50,000 miles of power lines. PPL Utilities has received 26 service awards from J.D. Power and Associates; more than any other utility company in the country. The company was one of the first utility providers to implement programs to help low-income customers pay their utility bills. They were also one of the first electric companies to track hourly usage data, helping their customers better manage their energy usage.

The company allows customers to connect their renewable energy generators, including water, solar, and wind to the grid. The company uses a net metering plan, charging the renewable energy customers for the difference between the energy they produce and the energy they receive. Frequently renewable energy customers are compensated by PPL Utilities since they produce more energy than required.
